Something for Everyone
It's like the owner decided to add everything from a gym design checklist - weight training, squash, volleyball, swimming, cardio, yoga,... you get it. Very complete, spacious and well-put together facility in a beautiful location on Green Point in Cape Town, near the stadium built for the World Cup in 2010. Scrupulously clean lockerroom, steamroom, and sauna - minor irritation that the lockers can't accomodate US-style padlocks, had to buy a miniature lock. Equipment in gym is good, and well-maintained, but only one real smith rack, nothing for shrugs, and pec-decks are of a brand which manage to always stress my shoulders uncomfortably because they apparently are designed for people with arms roughly four feet long. Other than that... be prepared to fill out a detailed form for even a single day visit. Disconcerting to see 8 year old boys in the locker room - while this is clearly 80% gay in terms of men, it is truly a family gym, and hot glances and strategically draped towels will be quickly be put in an unerotic context with kids running around like junior high. Vast amounts of eye candy, but like some gyms, peculiarly un-inviting, very little talking going on among the gym-goers, and a strangely unjoyful atmosphere, like several gyms I've reviewed. Worth a visit however.
